From Neville Quotes - Lecture #341 Time to Act
11/07/1966, I saw something and used it to tweak my thinking.
This is how God did it. He created you; then he became his creation in
order to make you alive. Becoming you, he plays every part you have ever
played, the rich man, the poor man, the beggar and the thief, whatever you
dare to assume, that he is.
How often Neville's said this. He taught that God created each of us and became
his creation. Now look at the statement of how he did it. He plays every part
we ever played. Accepting this as true, he is playing the parts we are each
playing right now. Is this something you can wrap your mind around?
I had to ask, who is playing me right now?
I AM! Only I AM - and I AM is creator and creation - just one Being. Not a
"we", just I AM.
I looked around and saw things and thought situations I had given my attention.
I noticed how I gave these things my attention. Some I thought of as though I
was a separate being, playing the part as though something was missing or out
of order. So I AM playing it out as though something was missing or out of
order. Oh no! :-(
Then I looked around again and thought the situations where I AM playing the
situations. I realized the situations are extensions of the consciousness
where I arranged images to appear as something missing or out of order. Since I
AM playing the situations, I knew it is just as easy to rearrange the images to
appear complete and whole. The situations are my creation. I became them
to make them alive. Although I became them before I consciously knew my
reactions to them kept them alive.
Yes, I reacted to images I arranged and viewed self in and through those
images. I reacted to the images and became the images. It was that easy. As
long as I remembered only I AM acts the parts, it is easy to rearrange the
images so they expressed their completeness and wholeness.
Getting it clear in my mind, I suspended thought of self as human. You see,
each time I think of self as human, I am thinking separateness and limitations.
Thinking of self as human, it's impossible to do anything. It is
impossible to change situations or manifest - from the human end of self. The
human end is the outer edge of consciousness, the created part. Creation.
Yet, to suspend thought of self as human is silliness to us when we do not know
we are spiritual beings. Not knowing this, every thing I said or Neville said
re I AM is just as silly. And of course the Scriptures are silly - from
the human point of view. Is there any wonder the concept is taught, "Consider
no one from the human point of view"?
Well it takes going this far with it to get to the point where I recognized I
AM as the only Self expressing - playing the parts. And I mean all the parts.
The parts of all so-called persons and things arranged in the situation. All
the parts of the situation itself - the creation.
So, take any situation and look at all the parts being played. See all the
expressions.
Let's say you are on your job. The job is the situation. How did you view
yourself when you thought of this job? All the thoughts playing through your
mind as you considered how you viewed yourself in the job show how I AM playing
the part of your job. Happy with the job? I AM playing the part where I AM
happy with the job. Want to leave for a better job? I AM playing the part where
I AM looking for a better job.
Oops! What's that about the job if I wanted to leave for a better job? I AM
playing the part where the job is less than desired.
What would make the better job? As soon as I asked the question, it happened. I
AM playing out scenes of the better job - bigger salary, better benefits,
greater freedom to innovate, etc. I AM playing the part where I have a bigger
salary. I AM playing the part where I have better benefits. I AM playing the
part where I have greater freedom to innovate.
Add what made your heart sing to this list of scenes - where I AM playing the
parts of the better job.
It was really thrilling to notice how I viewed self while I AM playing out
scenes of the better job? It was easy to see how I felt while I AM playing
out the better job? Reacting to that better job? I AM playing out my
reactions to the better job and viewing self.
I looked at various scenes of the better job - then I AM playing out
the scenes I liked playing out most. I AM playing out those
scenes I liked most and noticed the same reaction to that better job came
back again and again. The feeling rose up in me repeatedly - this was feeding
the mind and it was keeping the feeling of being in the better job alive. I AM
playing out my favorite scenes on the job and I AM reacting to these scenes,
becoming more and more of the better job each time I AM performing. As
soon as I realized I AM playing the part where I AM reacting to the better job,
I knew I accepted it as true and consented to it as true.
I AM playing out the better job until I become the better job and felt the
better job so strongly in my being that being the one in the better job was my
dominant view of self.
Neville Quotes from Lecture #304 That Which Already Has
Been, 10/06/1959 reminds us how we create our experiences and
in this statement he tells us the reason we even do this.
We create by
assembling an image that implies we now have what we want in this world and
if we are faithful we bring it to pass, and as we do it we begin to move
through this labyrinthine way for the return of His
Son.
In an earlier para he pointed out that we are here to make images - the
same way as did our Father. Neville acknowledged that we, in this classroom,
don't always get it right. He reminded us that we are not at fault when we make
mistakes, but simply not yet awake.
The objective is to awaken - and we do so in the areas where we arranged images
so we had in our possession and experienced things we wanted in this world. As
Neville said so clearly in this para, being faithful to the task, we bring it
about. And more, we move through the multifaceted processes until we are aware
of who we are.
The truly simple part of creating is being receptive. We do not have to make
any thing happen. We have merely to let it appear. Choose a desire - because
you know it already belongs to you. Then, assemble images that appeared in such
a way the only conclusion we could reach was we already possessed and otherwise
experienced it and we are done. No questions about it. No wondering when. Just
one simple conclusion: this is mine right now.
The thing that makes the process complex and makes the path look like a
struggle is questioning and doubt. Does this thing really belong to me? Does it
already exist? Does the form I want it in already exist? Could I really have
this? Do I deserve this? If I obtained it, wouldn't it deprive another?
What if my friends stopped talking to me if I had this? What if I got fired if
certain people at my job knew I wanted that position? What if someone told
me it was impossible? Is wholeness really mine already? Does Provision
really belong to me already? Is Victory really mine? These are questions asked
about things in my consciousness.
Some call it unbelief. Unbelief, I found, is a belief in something other than
the thing I was working on - since we are always believing something.
Questioning and doubt represent a belief. Working on a matter that involved
Victory of any sort, if I did not start out knowing I already won, my belief
was I had not won. The belief that opposed Victory. So I had to win at not
winning - since Truth has no opposition. If the matter involved Provision where
I did not begin my work knowing I already had a lavish income, simply my
belief was I did not have a lavish income. Since Provision is Truth and has no
opposition, my situation provided the appearance as though I did not have
a lavish income. It was essential to start out in the consciousness of the
desire, activated, where I knew it belonged to me.
But we could, if we would, suspend the questions. To do this in my work on
self, I did it by asking self, "What if I had no questions about this desire
and was fully receptive to the truth that I already possessed the thing I
desired?" With this question, I moved self from one position re the thing
I was working on to another. I moved from one state to another - and I felt
lighter and better. My reaction to the images showed receptivity and I saw how
I viewed self.
Not always was it an easy journey - to get to the place where I was receptive
and fully accepting the desire was already mine. For many situations - some
very common and easy situations at that, I had to work on self, work
in consciousness to see what it took to fully agree that I already
possessed the desire. I had to admit to self that I was asleep in those
matters. Awakening meant being aware of the steps I had to take - aware of the
images I needed to assemble that showed I possessed the desire.
One very important work I did on self was this: I reached the point where I
accepted as true that all of creation is already finished and that included the
experiences I wanted. My work on self included accepting, agreeing that all of
creation belonged to me. What helped most: if I saw it in the mind's eye, it
was mine - since all that's in my consciousness has to be mine. Whose else
could it be if it was in my mind? My stuff is in my mind. Your stuff is in your
mind. We each get to assemble the images to suit us - since they already
and always belong to us.
You might recall Neville taught that we could have only the things we could see
in the contents of our consciousness. Everything is in consciousness, but we
have to see it to have it and experience it. This is where assembling the image
of the desire fulfilled is so vital. The way I arranged the images is what I
got. I had to arrange the images so I saw the desire in my mind as already
fulfilled. Clear and solid. How did I know I had arranged the images right? How
did I react to them when I saw them? Or, did I react at all? My reaction
conveyed how I felt about the images.
I have feelings about things I accepted as real. I have feelings about things I
thought existed. IOW, if it exists, I react to it in some way - if I know it
exists. Delighted, protesting, pretending to ignore it - these are among my
reactions that showed I knew the thing existed.
I worked on self until it was clear to me that my primary task was to arrange
the images in my mind displaying the experience in the nature I preferred.
The nature of the experience - such as cars - is the make and model - the
aromas I smelled when I sat in it. The feel of the leather seats. Playing with
the various features. This is arranging the images in my mind and experiencing
it in imagination at the same time.
Accepting that the car already belonged to me, assembled its features in
my mind and experiencing it in imagination - these three steps was all I
had to do. In this order.
Neville Quotes from Lecture #347, The Word -
12/02/1966 give us a cue on how this thing of images works.
Now the Word is not only an arrangement of words to form a sentence, but
an arrangement of objects in space into a certain
frame. It also means “back” in the sense of that
which is behind the thing observed – its meaning. Knowing that the Word’s power
is in its implication, what does the embrace imply?
You saw the image of an embrace
just now, right?
Just seeing the word embrace
called the image to the front of your mind. Notice images playing out in your
mind the next time you are hearing another talking - whether talking with
you or not. It's in the hearing. It happens so quickly - so you have to
consciously hear and watch the images. Notice how the images acted when you
reacted to the words you hear the other saying.
Whether watching a movie or
listening to a conversation in your office, notice when your "ears" perk up.
Generally, it's when you heard something that resembled your own experience.
Instantly, you moved your attention to see how the thing you heard affected
you. That was a reaction and it showed something re your concept of self. It's
an automatic thing.
I got turned on to the inpact of
reactions in 1990 when I attended Debriefing Training. This training was set up
as the nation was engaged in Desert Shield, preparing for Desert Storm. The
thing that brought it home to me was a case scenario of a fire fighter who
pulled a child out of a raging fire. He was a father of a child about the same
age. As soon as he completed his duty re the fire, he left the scene and went
to make sure his own child was safe. Mind you, his child was not at all
involved in the fire. He was miles away, but in the fire fighter's mind, he had
to make sure. The experience triggered his reaction and stirred his concept of
self in re to his child.
This scenario gave us a glimpse of
what to expect - considering the psychological buildup for a major drama of
that period - how images were arranged to create a buy-in for an outrageous
war. It set up the need for debriefing work all across the nation.
I'm truly glad enough folks dreaming something other than the anticipated
scenes somehow rearranged the images so Desert Storm did not unfold as
they described.
Neville Quotes from At Your Command, 1939,
gives us a neat little drill.
"...the very second the feeling “I AM healthy” is attained the two have
agreed. That is, I AM and health have agreed to be one and this agreement
ever results in the birth of a child which is the thing agreed upon – in
this case, health. And because I made the agreement I express the thing
agreed."
Look at "I AM" and then look at "healthy" as though they are separate beings.
Now look at "healthy" and see it as a portion of creation. Knowing creation is
finished, you know "healthy" is a done deal - because it is a portion of
creation. Look at "healthy" again and say, "Ummm! So that's 'healthy'! I like
'healthy'!. Let me embrace 'healthy' and merge with 'healthy'!"
Did you see the reaction? Did you feel it? Who merged with healthy? Who liked
healthy?
Now play the part with some other portions of creation. Ask the same questions
re to each portion of creation you chose to meet, greet and become aware of.
Quote comes from a book in Neville Lectures to Change Your World
Neville
Quotes from Creative Use of Imagination
gives us clarity for moving forward in this work we do on self and as we
share with others.
The purpose of these
talks is to bring about a psychological change in you, the individual.
Humanity, understood psychologically, is an infinite series of levels
of awareness and you, individually, are what you are according to where
you are in the series. Consciousness is the only reality, and where you
are conscious of being psychologically, determines the circumstances of
your life.
As we see here, Neville invited us to understand humanity psychologically.
To view humanity as an infinite series of levels of awareness. He invited
us to view ourselves according to where we are in the series. Acknowledging
consciousness as the only reality, where each of us is psychologically is
where we are in consciousness.
I noticed it takes a bit of intentional work to view ourselves and others
psychologically. Indeed, we have to condition ourselves to do this since
this is not the way we were trained over the life course to do. It does not
take a rocket scientist to know we were trained to view the circumstances
and judge ourselves according to the conditions and events in our lives. We
have more than enough evidence of that training all around us. This is a
backwards point of view - the cart before the horse.
To move forward, we work on self to view ourselves and others from the
consciousness we are in that produced the circumstances, conditions and
events. Reacting to a single event is enough to stir a series of events
that seemed unrelated. Yet the feeling expressed through the reaction is
the same all through the entire series. One factor: the more events in the
series, the stronger the reaction until it brings overwhelming
circumstances. And this can go in either direction: good and not good.
What happens when we view another from the consciousness he is in?
Since consciousness - where one is psychologically - determines the
circumstances, a brief description of the circumstances tells where
the person is psychologically. We do not have to try to change the
circumstances - although this was part of our earlier training. Instead, we
change the consciousness as Neville taught.
I got a call this morning from a woman who was so concerned about her son.
She told me about his current circumstances. And in the natural
course, she wanted to change the circumstances. Instantly images played out
in my mind of an event he was reacting to that brought the
circumstances the lady described. His reaction to the earlier event and the
current circumstances were a perfect match. The circumstances told the
story of how he felt about himself. She felt it and I felt it. It was clear
in this instance he felt very low.
It was so clear! Immediately I knew we had to move our attention from
the circumstances to a new state of consciousness. I saw how badly it made
me feel. My first motive was to feel better. I saw the circumstances
made her feel just awful. Involved in my motive was that she felt better.
That meant having something different to react to.
It took only a few seconds to find a scene she played out in her mind that
lifted her spirits right away. I prompted her to check: to notice how
she felt when she saw images of the circumstances she told me about
and compare it with the images she arranged in her mind. Readily, she
acknowledged that seeing the images she arranged in her mind felt better.
We played with it for a few moments so she was clear on the consciousness
she wanted.
The lady's reaction to the new images set her into a different place
psychologically. She felt better and she felt her son feeling better about
himself - she gave him a new concept of self. She agreed to view those
images she arranged in her mind each time she thought of her son, heard his
name or voice or heard of another called by the same name.
I was delighted! I felt the shift in the lady's energy as soon as she
rearranged the images in her mind on behalf of her son. Her energy remained
high through the conclusion of our conversation - and as I think her, her
energy is high.
Neville Quotes from Lecture #223, You Can Forgive Sin,
03/29/1963 gives a few simple steps to take to mold
your world.
I AM assuming I AM the man I would like to be. That is God. I begin
to name it and walk in that state, and that is God. There is nothing
but God. Forget what you have done. or what you are seemingly doing,
and dream of the man or woman you would like to be and dare to assume
you are it.
Who is the man or woman you would like to be?
Did I hear you say you wanted to be the top salesman in your company?
Well, did you dream of being the top salesman? What was it like - what
happened that showed you were the top salesman? Who knew about it? Who
mentioned it? How did they react when they heard that news about you? How
did you react? How did you view yourself after you heard what they said?
Did you play out all the parts? Of yourself? Of those who talked about what
you had done? Of those who reacted to your news? Of how you viewed self
after hearing and seeing their reactions?
